Paul Martino - Building a Culture of Esprit de Corps in Healthcare and Hiring

On this episode, your host, Oz Rashid, is joined by Paul Martino, Co-Founder and Chief Strategy Officer at VillageMD — a company that aims to change people’s health outcomes — to talk about picking the person to build a culture of esprit de corps loyalty.

Paul shares the pillars that make up a company with a mission to change the way healthcare is done and tells stories of the employees they hired for character more than anything, and why they remain loyal years later.

He explains how VillageMD has built a culture of loyalty to keep turnover low and retention high.

Paul describes his hiring mistakes and speaks about the one question he likes to ask prospective employees. He explains why their answers to one question show the real person instead of spotlighting things of slightly less importance, such as qualifications, experience, skills and so on. After all, things that can be taught are less important than character, which is instinctual.
